HEATHCOTE RIDGE VINEYARD PROJECT
Heathcote Central Victoria
Blaxland Vineyards Limited, in conjunction with FABAL, has developed the Heathcote Ridge Vineyard Projects 1 & 2 (HRV) with 95 hectares planted between 2006 and 2008. The vineyard has been developed in conjunction with Orlando Wines, one of Australia’s leading wine companies. HRV is located at the northern end of the Heathcote wine area, about 2 hours north of Melbourne airport and has large vineyards owned by Brown Brothers and Fosters (Seppelts) as neighbours.
The first commercial crop is scheduled for 2009, delivering the first instalment on a 10 year grape sale contract to Orlando Wines. As well as the ‘normal’ varieties such as Shiraz and Merlot we have been asked to plant Tempranillo, the major red wine of Spain and becoming very popular with Australian Consumers. In addition to the commercial vineyard, we have two 1 hectare parcels of land where Shiraz and Montepulciano ( Italy) have been planted to demonstrate the quality of the wine produced at the HRV site. This wine will be supplied to our investors to ensure that they are not drinking substandard wines throughout the year.
There is still 15 hectares of the vineyard to plant and Blaxland are keen to talk to any investment group that would be interested in taking on this portion of vineyard including the Orlando grape purchase contract.
