PETER LEHMANN BAROSSA TEMPRANILLO 2005

Daily Mail 7.4.07

Liquorice, sour cherries, warm tar, more cherries and lashings of dark chocolate are all found in my Wine of the Week. Using the Rioja grape Tempranillo in the sunny climes of the Barossa Valley works well. This sensational wine is a multi-talented beast when it comes to food matching, but lamb is at the front of the queue.

ANTHONY ROSE

The Independent 7.4.07

For a softer style of red, Tempranillo has a natural affinity with lamb... like the soft blackcurrant fruitiness of the 2005 Peter Lehmann Barossa Tempranillo worked a treat (with lamb chops).

“…the full throttle, Rioja-on-steroids like Peter Lehmann Tempranillo”.

Tempranillo? In Australia ? Oh yes, and it not only retains all the mellow glory of the rioja grape, it also has an edge of smoky, spicy Barossa character – though that may be down to the 13% shiraz in this blend. (Drink with) Lamb shoulder roasted until it melts and drops off the bone, with olive-oil-soaked potatoes.
